Art folder assignments will consist of independent sketches or Art related questions to be completed by the students during Art class or for homework. Art folders will be checked weekly for progress. Each assignment will be worth 5 points toward your child’s Art grade for each trimester. Late slips will be issued for late assignments. Since students only have Art once a week, late work will not be accepted after the second late week.

May Mystery Artist Clues

1. His drawings are simple, like cartoons, they feature recognizable images like a barking dog, a spaceship, a television set, and outlined people and babies.

2. Long before his name became well known, his bold outline drawings on blank poster spaces in New York subways attracted the attention of a variety of people.

3. One of his trademarks is short, choppy lines radiating from figures. This suggests the idea of noise, energy, happiness, and movement.

4. There is no deep meaning in his drawings. They were supposed to be fun, to give immediate visual pleasure to the people who saw them. Perhaps this is why very few of his artworks were ever given titles.

5. He was born in 1958 and died in 1990.

April Mystery Artist Clues!

March's Mystery Artist was Alexander Calder.

APRIL MYSTERY ARTIST CLUES:
1. He was born in Spain in 1904. He is also considered one of the most famous and unusual artists of the 20th century.

2. His best-known paintings are called Surrealistic. Surrealist artists create mostly from what they remember from their dreams, mysterious objects, familiar objects that have been oddly changed, and anything that automatically pops into their minds.

3. During his life, he did many strange things to get peoples attention. For example, he told people that he received messages from outer space through his mustache, which acted like an antenna.

4. Surrealists, (artist, poets, and filmakers) hoped their strange works of art would make people think, and discover feelings they never knew they had. They felt that stirring up thoughts from the backs of people's minds were important for artist to do.
