Art Folder 22:
Mask making is a popular art form created by various cultures for many different purposes. Some masks are meant to be worn while others are used for decorative purposes. In some cultures masksare worn for special ceremonies, celebrations and dances. A mask is also used by many cultures to hide the wearer's identity from evil or to scare away ghosts. Other cultures use masks for functional, or useful purposes like firefighters wear masks for oxygen.
Your assignment is to design a mask based on your culture or cultural background. Think about the colors, shaping, and purpose of your mask. Please explain your mask.

Art Folder 21

Directions: Using visual texture, create different patterns in each of the shapes below.

What is the difference between texture and pattern? Texture is the way something feels or appears to feel. Patterns usually create visual texture, but texture may not be seen as pattern all the time. When texture is decorative, repetitive, and evenly spaced over an area, we are more likely to call it a pattern.

Some classes are further along than others, so here are two art folder assignments:

19: You have just been hired by a record company to design the CD cover of your favorite band! Your assignment is to create a CD cover that promotes this group. Remember to include the name of the group, title of the CD, and any other important information the consumer might need. Please use color! ***note this is a school assignment so please make sure the band/singer you choose is appropriate for school.

20: Create five different textures. Texture is the way something feels or appears to feel in an artwork. Texture refers to the surface quality --how smooth or rough, flat or bumpy. In the world there are all kinds of texture. Actual texture in art is associated with sculpture, architecture, and other crafts. Actual texture is the texture you can touch and feel with your hands. Visual texture is creating the illusion of texture. For example, in a painting a bowl of apples on a wooden table...the artist would creat a smooth apple and fruit and illustrat the grooves in the wooden table.
