Third Grade After School Activity

3rd Grade Art Club

Dear Parents and 3rd Graders,

Art Club will be meeting during the month of February! February’s Art Club activities will be available for 3rd grade students. Art Club activities and meeting times will be on Wednesday, February 6th, Wednesday February 13th, and Wednesday, February 20th. Maximum of 26 students will be permitted to participate in this activity.
The 3rd grade activity will be ‘My Favorites”. Students will use their favorites (colors, numbers, objects, activities, etc.) to create an abstract artwork. Students will have the opportunity to draw, paint and express who they are in their art. Students who would like to participate will need to pay a $5.00 lab fee. The lab fee will cover the costs of materials used during Art Club activities.
All Art Club activities will be at Prairieview School starting at 2:30 p.m. and will end at 3:45 p.m. STUDENTS ARE TO BE PICKED UP PROMPTLY AT 3:45 p.m. If you are interested in participating in this after school activity, you will need to fill out the bottom of this form and return it to Miss Smeltzer by 02/01/2008.
If you need to car pool with someone, please have your parent name the person(s) at the bottom of the permission slip (please no more than 2 others). Please note that Art Club is an after school activity, thus buses will not be available. Please make other arrangements.

Art Events

January Mystery Artist Clues
1. He was born in New York City in 1894. He received his first assignments as an illustrator when he was a teenager.
2. The cover of The Saturday Evening Post was his showcase for over forty years, giving him an audience larger than that of any other artist in history.
3. He also painted a great number of pictures for story illustrations, advertising campaigns, posters, calendars, and books.
4. His pictures chronicled, (a record of events), the introduction of radio and television, automobile and airplane travel, and even flights to the moon.

The Creative Youth Art Fair is Coming....

The Creative Youth Art Fair is a wonderful opportunity for our students to show their creativity and to experience artwork of students in the area. During Art classes this week, I will be sharing information regarding The Creative Youth Art Fair. Creative Youth Art Fair of 2008

The Creative Youth Art Fair of 2008 is an exhibition of paintings, drawings, and sculptures created by the youth of the Darien area. The exhibition is sponsored by the Darien Woman’s Club (DWC). The exhibition will be held at the Eisenhower Junior High School, 1410 75th Street, Darien, IL, on February 3, 2008 from 2:00 to 3:30 PM. Prizes and awards will be presented at 3:00pm. To enter the Art Fair, the registration below must be completed. Additional forms are available at the Indian Prairie Library lobby information display. Copies will be accepted.

Rules and Regulations
1. Darien area youth age 4 years old through twelfth grade are eligible to enter by filling out a registration form and returning it to Heidi Ramirez, 1613 Heather Lane, Darien, IL 60561 (630 985-3813) postmarked by January 19th, or by dropping it off at the Indian Prairie Library in the drop box located in the lobby by January 28th before 6pm. EACH PIECE OF ART WORK MUST BE PRE-REGISTERED, NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED. While every care is taken with the art work submitted, DWC takes no responsibility for lost or damaged art work.
2. Exhibits will be accepted between 4:30 and 6.30pm ONLY on Friday February 1st. Exhibits should be brought to the Eisenhower Junior High School Commons Room. Absolutely no exhibits may be removed during the show. All exhibits must be claimed on Sunday, February 3rd at 3:30 PM.
3. Each individual may enter no more than two exhibits in the show. Exhibitors may enter in the media of their choice.
4. All work must be the original work of the artist. No tracing, paint by numbers, or kits of any kind will be accepted.
5. Paintings and drawings must be no larger than 24” by 36” including mount or matt. Entries MUST be mounted on con- struction paper or matted. Artwork in frames will NOT be accepted. Sculptures must have a base no larger than 18”x18”. No mobiles will be accepted.
6. No entry will be accepted without being labeled on the front with the Name, School, Division and Media (see form below). Also, please label the back of your entry with your name and telephone.
7. The decision of the judges is final. An independent panel of judges will evaluate each piece of artwork. A point system will be used to evaluate originality, design, use of color and shading, line and texture, and workmanship. Awards of first, second and third place ribbons will be determined by a fair and consistent point system. The judges are qualified art teachers and artists from the area. Judge’s names are confidential. A special award will be presented to the overall winner in each division as well as in the Photography/Computer Generated media category. Division winners will be informed on Saturday, February 2nd. Total number of entries will be limited to 650 on a first-come-first-served basis.
