Mystery Artist for November:
1. This artist was born in New York in 1882. He often used his wife, Jo Nivison ?, as a model in most of his paintings. Sometimes he changed the color of her hair or put her in different costumes.
2. He said this painting, " was suggested by a restaurant on Greenwich Ave., N.Y. where 2 streeets meet. It seems to be the way I think of a night street...I simplified the scene a great deal and made the restaurant bigger. Unknowingly, i was probably painting the loniliness of a larger city."
3. The poster of this famous painting is on display also hangs at the Art Institute of Chicago,Nighthawks, 1942

Mystery Artist for December:
1. He was born in Cody, Wyoming in 1912. He was the youngest of five brothers.
2. He is best known for the huge paintings he made by splattering, throwing, and dripping paint onto his canvases. He also used old, hardened brushes, sticks, and anything else he could find to paint with.
3. His style of art is often called Abstract Expressionsim. It was considered this, because he moved around a lot and used so much energy while he painted. However, he preferred to call his style, Action Painting.
4. Although some have trouble understanding his paintings as art. He knew exactly what he was doing. As you look at his work, you can get a feeling of being surrounded by light and color, movement and energy, that is very exciting!!!

*Paper Recycling: Did you know that you can help our district earn money by recycling paper here at school? You can bring in any paper (no cardboard please) to the green and yellow bin marked Paper Retriever located in Lakeview's parking lot to be recycled. The more paper we collect, the more money we can earn. The provider of the bin uses the paper to make newsprint, which is then sold to other companies. That is how we are paid to recycle paper.

Thank you for your help (and for helping the environment at the same time!)
