3rd Grade Art Club!

Due to great interest in Art Club by our third grade students, I will start the new year with another third grade Art Club activity! This December's Art Club activity for 3rd grade is small-scale sculpture made of salt dough. Students made creations using handprints, cookie cutters, and carving tools. Next week, students will complete their creations by painting them. Salt dough is a fun inexpensive activity. To make your own salt dough, see the recipe below!

2 cups flour
1 cup salt
1 cup water
In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and water. Stir with a spoon until it get thick, then get your hands in there! If its too sticky, add flour. If its too dry add water. Roll it out and enjoy. Dough usually will keep for 5 days. Air-drying takes 2-3 days or bake at 300

December Mystery Artist Clues

1. Born on December 12, 1863, this Norwegian artist faced many losses throughout his life. His mother died when he was 5. His closest sister died when he was 14. His father died when this artist was 26 and his younger brother died when he was 32.

2. Using art to help him express his feelings, this Modern Expressionist used lines, colors, shapes, and forms to show his innermost feelings of sadness, lonliness, anger, and suffering. Rather than painting what he saw in the world, he painted how the world made him feel.

3. On August 22, 2004, two of this artist's works were stolen from an art museum in Norway. On of the works was one of his most famous pieces called The Scream.
