Mystery Artist for April: To be announced soon!

1st Grade: Modern Mona Lisa

First graders will be learning about the artist, Leonardo Da Vinci and his famous Mona Lisa. We will begin drawing the facial features of our portrait in pencil. We will study the proportion of the facial features while giving her a modern style!!


2nd Grade: Kandinsky Colors

Students will be learning about the artist, Wassily Kandinsky and his Pure Abstract style. Students will learn how his Abstract style helped him mix our senses with colors. We will continue learning about shapes and colors by painting based on the color wheel.

3rd Grade: Matisse Goldfish

We will begin learning about the artist Henri Matisse. We will focus on his painting, Goldfish, and begin creating our own interpretation of Goldfish.

4th Grade: Guatemalan Weaving

We will begin discussing the process of weaving. Student will create their own cardboard loom weavings. This week students continue using weaving techniques including tabby, basketweave, and irregular basketweave!

5th Grade: One Point Perspective

We are beginning a basic introduction into one point perspective. Students will be selecting a word to draw in perspective and then designing a background to support it.

March 23 3rd Grade Art Adventures

March 25 Last school day before Spring Break!

Mystery Artist for March:

1.He was born in Paris, France, in 1848. He led an adventurous life traveling all over the world to find just the right place to paint.

2. He often used flat, bright colors and simple outlined shapes in his paintings. He also used symbols that would give a look of mystery to his paintings.

3.He is probably best known for his painting of life on the faraway islands of the South Pacific.

4. His artwork is often displayed along side his fellow artist Vincent van Gogh. These two artists lived and studied together in Arles, France for a short time.

Doodle 4 Google Logo Contest is a competition where students design the Google logo according to this year's theme, "What I'd like to do someday." The winning doodler will have his or her artwork viewed on google.com homepage, win a college scholarship, and earn computers for his or her school. Information packets are in the art room.

1st Grade: Action Jackson Abstract Expressionist Paintings

First graders are learning about the artist, Jackson Pollock and his Abstract Expressionist style. We will begin painting with string and other found objects. Students will learn about primary and secondary colors. Check out www.jacksonpollock.org to create like Pollock for some stress releasing creativity!

We will continue sketching our own self-portraits. Once we have completed the basics of our portraits we will begin discussing Surrealism and how to illustrate it on their own self-portraits.
