Mystery Artist Clues: 
1. Born in March 1475, this Italian artist was a gifted painter, sculptor, and architect.
2. After four long years, he finished painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel at the Vatican Palace in Rome, Italy.
3. He loved sculpting, especially the human form. His sculptures were lifelike, (wrinkle, shadows, and smooth surfaces).
4. Most know him by his first name, but together his first and last name is 22 letters long.

Kindergarten:   Modern Mona Lisa
We are currently learning about portraits, especially the most famous Mona Lisa by Leonardo Di Vinci.  We are drawing our own version of Mona Lisa and creating a modern twist for our backgrounds.


First Grade:  Action Jackson Paintings and Faith Ringgold's Tar Beach
We will learn about the Abstract Expressionist, Jackson Pollock and his wild works!  We will use this time to also discuss the Primary and Secondary Colors while we paint with tools that are not paint brushes!!  Once we complete our Jackson Pollock paintings, we will begin learning about the artist Faith Ringgold and Story Quilts.

Second Grade:  Clay Pinchpots
Students will begin learning about clay, the hand-building process and create their own pinch-pots.  We will be creating with air-dry clay and painting it with water-based paints.    

Third Grade: F.L. Wright Mansions
We are learning about the architect Frank Lloyd Wright and designing our own dream facades.  We are discussing the challenges and creativity it takes to create a structure-safety, environment, location, materials, etc.

Fourth Grade: Guatemalan Weaving
We will begin learning about the weaving process and create a weaving on a cardboard loom.  We have started warping our looms and using Tabby.  We will learn a total of 5 weaving techniques!
  
Fifth Grade:  Surreal Portraits
  Once we are done painting we will begin learning about drawing the human face and creating a Surrealist twist into our portraits.  We will learn about Leonardo da Vinci's proportions of the face and the Surrealist styles of various artists including Rene Magritte and Salvidore Dali.

Art Adventures

Who?         3rd Grade, 4th Grade & 5th Grade students
Please note, that each month we will rotate between 4th-5th grade students & 3rd grade students, (see below).  A maximum of 26 students will be permitted to participate in these activities each month since classroom space is limited.   Please return your permission slip as soon as possible to guarantee a spot in class!

Students will begin learning about the Japanese style of fish printing called Gyotaku.  We will use rubber fish to learn about the printmaking process.
