May 28 Memorial Day--No School
May 30  Art Adventures for 3rd Grade!!!
June 5th Last Day--Happy Summer!!!

1st Grade: Van Gogh Flowers- We will be learning about the famous artist, Vincent van Gogh. We will learn about his moody ways and his amazingly bright, beautiful impressionist paintings!!! We will be drawing, coloring and painting the school year away!

2nd Grade:  F. Ringgold Story Quilts: We will finish up the year creating our very own story quilts and learning about the African American Artist, Faith Ringgold.

3rd Grade: F. L. Wright Mansions & Egyptian Clay- Students will be finishing the facade of their dream mansion!  We will complete our Egyptian Clay reliefs with the finishing touch of paint.
4th Grade: Guatemalan Weaving and Printmaking- Students are learning about the Guatemalan culture and weaving. Students will learn to create various weaving techniques!!! Once we get comfortable weaving, we will start printmaking.  We will make our own prints using cardboard, string and ink.  Any down time is weaving time!!!

5th Grade: One Point Perspective and Mask Making-We are on our final stages of mask making, painting and decorating.  When students are finished they will continue creating perspective.

Mystery Artist for April: Ansel Adams
Mystery Artist for May has been cancelled, we are so busy in the Art Room!!!

3rd Grade: F. L. Wright Mansions &  Egyptian Clay- We are drawing and learning about Architecture and the architect, Frank Lloyd Wright! Students will be creating the facade of their dream mansion!  When we begin adding color to our facades we will also start studying Eygpt.  We will make Egyptian reliefs using clay.
4th Grade: Guatemalan Weaving and Printmaking- Students are learning about the Guatemalan culture and weaving. Students are learning how to warp their own loom and begin weaving. Students will learn to create various weaving techniques!!! Once we get comfortable weaving, we will start printmaking.  We will make our own prints using cardboard, string and ink.  Any down time is weaving time!!!

5th Grade: One Point Perspective and Mask Making-Our next project will begin by creating block letters that will turn into one-point perspective projects. Once we get this activity under way, we will begin prepping and creating plaster masks.

2nd Grade: Clay Pinch Pots and F. Ringgold Story Quilts: Students are sculpting our very own pinch pots using air-dry clay!!!  When they dry, we will paint them. We will finish up the year creating our very own story quilts and learning about the African American Artist, Faith Ringgold.

***The plaster gauze we use is similar to the type they use on casts for broken bones.  Plaster gauze can make the room quite dusty, if you are concerned about your child's health due to asthma or allergies relating to dust, please let me know.  I will be discussing the same with the fifth grade classes, any child not comfortable working with plaster will work in the hallway to create a  paper mache' mask instead.
