October Mystery Artist Clues:
1. He was born in Paris, France, in 1848. He led an adventurous life traveling all over the world to find just the right place to paint.
2. He often used flat, bright colors and simple outlined shapes in his paintings.  He also used symbols that would give a look of mystery to his paintings.
3. He is probably best known for his painting of life on the far away islands of the South Pacific.
4. His artwork is often displayed along side his fellow artist, Vincent van Gogh. These two artists lived and studied together in Arles, France for a short time.
Artwork on display: Women of the Mango.

Kindergarten: Fall Texture
Students will begin learning about texture by studying leaves.  We will use leaves to discuss how they feel in our hands and what kinds of colors we have seen in leaves.  We will create a rubbing of leaves using crayons in hopes to create a Autumn picture using the warm and cool colors of leaves.

First Grade: Wild Things
Students have heard the story of, Where the Wild Things Art, by Maurice Sendak.  This week we will begin creating our own wild thing creatures while learning about shapes, texture and the joys of oil pastels!

Second Grade: Prehistoric Rock Art
Students will begin learning about the earliest days of Art.  How prehistoric cultures created Art and why.  We will create our own Rock Art images creating a cave-like atmosphere in the room.  We will discuss the purpose of symbols and colors of paint pigment.

Third Grade:  Kaleidoscopes
Student will use one word to define 'Art'.  We will use their words to create a word cloud using www.wordle.net.  Following this activity, we will begin folding our papers for our Kaleidoscope designs.

Fourth Grade: Picasso Portraits
We will begin learning about Pablo Picasso and his style of Cubism.  Students will be creating their own Cubist Portraits while learning about organic and geometric shapes.  We will also discuss complementary colors as we create bright and colorful works!

Fifth Grade: American Gothic
We will then begin studying the artist, Grant Wood and his famous artwork, American Gothic. Students will begin creating their own parody of American Gothic focusing on emphasis, repetition,  and texture.
