April 5-9, 2010


March 26 Spring Break Begins!!!!

1st Grade- Modern Mona Lisa: We will begin learning about the artist Leonardo Da Vinci and his famous painting, Mona Lisa. We will continue to add in color to our portraits.

2nd Grade- Faith Ringgold Story Quilts: We begin learning about the African American female artist, Faith Ringgold. We will explore her experience with her story quilts!

3rd Grade- Matisse Goldfish: We will begin learning about Henri Matisse and his Goldfish painting. Students will finishb painting their own Goldfish painting and begin collaging their fish.

4th Grade- Guatemalan Weaving : Students will begin studying Guatemala and their textile art. Students are warping thier looms and learning the weaving technique of tabby, basket weave, irregular basket weave, pull-ups and soumak.

5th Grade- Fantastic Portraits: Students will be learning about the artist Leonardo DaVinci and his theories of an Ideal Face. Students will use those theories to create their own self portrait with an animal twist!

Art Folder: All 5th graders are Art Folder Homework Free for Spring Break unless they have late work!

Art Folder 16

A still life is a painting or drawing of a group of objects created by the artist according to a theme. A still life is usually set indoors and contains at least one man-made object. For example, the table on which the group of objects are arranged or in a floral still life the base holding the flowers.
Your assignment is to select at least 3 objects, arrange them, and create a still life drawing. Your still life should include textures and details...shading is encouraged.

March 1 Casimir Pulaski Day- No School


1st Grade- Modern Mona Lisa: We will begin learning about the artist Leonardo Da Vinci and his famous painting, Mona Lisa. We will start by sketching the face.

2nd Grade- Kandinsky Colors: We begin learning about Wassily Kandinsky. We will explore geometric shapes and primary colors. Next we will learn about organic shapes and secondary colors!

3rd Grade- Matisse Goldfish: We will begin learning about Henri Matisse and his Goldfish painting. Students will begin sketching their own Goldfish painting.

4th Grade- Guatemalan Weaving : We will finish creating our own Aboriginal creatures using story art or x-ray art. Students will begin studying Guatemala and their textile art.

5th Grade-DaVinci 's Zoomorphic self portraits:Students will be learning about the artist Leonardo DaVinci and his theories of an Ideal Face. Students will use those theories to create their own self portrait with an animal twist!

Art Folder 15 will be the last Art Folder of Trimester 2. This will give fifth grade students a few extra minutes of class time to dedicate towards their projects...Open House is not far away!!
