Mystery Artist Clues: 
1. born in Albi, France in 1864, he grew up in one of the wealthiest families in Europe.
2. As a child he broke several bones. Doctors discovered that he had a rare disease that caused his bones to be fragile and break easily.  He had to be very careful the rest of his life.
3. He is known best for his paintings and posters of theaters, dance halls, and circuses in Paris.  His work showed people in simple, real moments in their lives without using models to pose.

Kindergarten:   Van Gogh Sunflowers
We will begin learning about Vincent Van Gogh and his colorful sunflowers.  


First Grade:  Faith Ringgold's Tar Beach
We will learn about the Abstract Expressionist, Jackson Pollock and his wild works!  We will use this time to also discuss the Primary and Secondary Colors while we paint with tools that are not paint brushes!!  Once we complete our Jackson Pollock paintings, we will begin learning about the artist Faith Ringgold and Story Quilts.

Second Grade:  Clay Pinchpots
Students will begin learning about clay, the hand-building process and create their own pinch-pots.  We will be creating with air-dry clay and painting it with water-based paints.    

Third Grade: F.L. Wright Mansions and Egyptian Clay Reliefs
We are learning about the architect Frank Lloyd Wright and designing our own dream facades.  We are discussing the challenges and creativity it takes to create a structure-safety, environment, location, materials, etc.  We will also begin learning the basic clay techniques of creating with clay slabs.

Fourth Grade: Guatemalan Weaving and Printmaking
We will begin learning about the weaving process and create a weaving on a cardboard loom.  We have started warping our looms and using Tabby.  We will learn a total of 5 weaving techniques!  While weaving in our spare time, we will begin a unit in Printmaking by creating our own plates and printing them!
  
Fifth Grade:  Surreal Portraits and One Point Perspective
  Once we are done working on our Surrealist  portraits we will begin a short unit in one point perspective before our final project of mask making!

Art Adventures

Who?         3rd Grade
Please note, that each month we will rotate between 4th-5th grade students & 3rd grade students, (see below).  A maximum of 26 students will be permitted to participate in these activities each month since classroom space is limited.   Please return your permission slip as soon as possible to guarantee a spot in class!
