October Mystery Artist Clues:
1. Born October 8, 1930 in Harlem, N.Y. this African American artist is known for her quilts and award-winning books.

2. Within her 'story quilts' she shares stories of her family memories, life struggles, growths, and her hope for the future.

3. Her quilts consist of paintings swen together with colorful pieces of fabric.

4. Some of her most famous books include: Tar Beach, Dinner at Aunt Connie's House and Harriet's Underground Railroad in the Sky.



1st Grade: Wild Thing Monsters and Nez Perce Woven Bags
We will finish learning about the illustrator Maurice Sendak and his book Where the Wild Things Are. Students will be putting on their final touches to their own wild thing using oil pastels. Next up, we will begin studying the Native American tribe called the Nez Perce and their fine work with cornhusk woven bags.


2nd Grade: George Seurat
Students are learning about the artist George Seurat and his Pointillist style. We will then begin creating our own Pointillist Landscapes and will outline them in oil pastels prior to painting in dots!!!


3rd Grade: Kaleidoscope Names and Japanese Landscapes
Students will attempt to finish coloring with their choice of markers and/or crayons. We will then begin discussing the Japanese Culture and create Japanese Landscapes.


4th Grade: Picasso Portraits and M.C. Escher Hands
Students are currently learning about Complementary Colors and putting the finishing touches into their Picasso projects. Following our portraits we will begin discussing the artist M. C. Escher.


5th Grade: American Gothic Parodies and Keith Haring Paintings
Students will complete their American Gothic parody projects and will begin learning about the artist, Keith Haring. We will begin studying how to use symbols to communicate through Art.

We have learning and practicing how to 'Be Safe, Be Responsible, and Be Respectful' since the beginning of the school year. We have been earning paws for showing positive behavior in these areas.
Your assignment is to create a comic strip that follows the theme of Positive Behavior- Be Respectful, Be Responsible, and Be Safe. Your comic strip may use as many panels, (frames), to illustrate your idea of positive behavior. You may focus on all three “Be's” or just one in your comic strip. Your comic strip should show how someones uses positive behavior. Please color and label which “Be” you're showing. Remember, I only ask that you do YOUR best!
