November 2- Art Adventures for 3rd Grade begins!

Mystery Artist Clues for October:
1. Born in Albi, France in 1864, he grew up in one of the wealthiest families in Europe.
2. As a child he broke several bones. Doctors discovered that he had a rare disease that caused his bones to be fragile and break easily. He had to be very careful the rest of his life.
3. He is known best for his paintings and posters of theaters, dance halls, and circuses in Paris. His work showed people in simple, real moments in their lives without using models to pose.work displayed Moulin-Rouge 1891

Mystery Artist for November:
1. This artist was born in New York in 1882. He often used his wife, Jo Nivison ?, as a model in most of his paintings. Sometimes he changed the color of her hair or put her in different costumes.
2. He said this painting, " was suggested by a restaurant on Greenwich Ave., N.Y. where 2 streeets meet. It seems to be the way I think of a night street...I simplified the scene a great deal and made the restaurant bigger. Unknowingly, i was probably painting the loniliness of a larger city."

1st Grade: Nez Perce Woven Bags
We began discussing Native American Art and weaving. Students will learn about creating Art from natures and the weaving art form. Students will begin creating their own paper weavings as a representation of the Nez Perce Cornhusk woven bags. We have been talking about weaving vocabulary including: warp, weft, and tabby!

2nd Grade: Sunday Afternoon in the Park and Rock Art
We are completing our exploration of landscapes while discussing the pointillist art by George Seurat. Next, students will be solving the mystery, 'If Rock Can Talk'!

3rd Grade: Kaleidoscopes & Japanese Landscapes
We havThe classes that are nearing finished this week will begin learning about the Japanese culture and begin prepping their paper for chalk and pastels!

4th Grade: MC Escher Hands
We are putting on our finishing touches of complementary colors to complete our own cubist portraits. Next up, studying the works of M.C. Escher and his plays with illusions in Art.

5th Grade: 'Moves like Haring'
Students that have completed their parodies will begin learning how to draw the human form in movement while studying the artist Keith Haring. This will prepare students for a drawing and painting project based on Keith Harings works.
