Mystery Artist Clues for October:
1. Born in Albi, France in 1864, he grew up in one of the wealthiest families in Europe.
2. As a child he broke several bones. Doctors discovered that he had a rare disease that caused his bones to be fragile and break easily. He had to be very careful the rest of his life.
3. He is known best for his paintings and posters of theaters, dance halls, and circuses in Paris. His work showed people in simple, real moments in their lives without using models to pose.

1st Grade: Nez Perce Woven Bags
We began discussing Native American Art and weaving. Students will learn about creating Art from natures and the weaving art form. Students will begin creating their own paper weavings as a representation of the Nez Perce Cornhusk woven bags.
2nd Grade: Sunday Afternoon in the Park
We have begun exploring landscapes while discussing the pointillist art by George Seurat. You may hear your student sing, 'George Seurat paints with dot, dot, dots!' Students are allowed to interupt me whenever I say his name with this song--a way to help them remember our new artist and his work! This week we are finishing up our BIG dots and beginning our little dots too!
3rd Grade: Kaleidoscopes & Japanese Landscapes
We have began studying radial design and began creating a kaleidoscope design. We are discussing pattern, repetition, and colors. They are looking good! The classes that are nearing finished this week will begin learning about the Japanese culture and begin prepping their paper for chalk and pastels!
4th Grade: Picasso Portraits & MC Escher Hands
We are putting on our finishing touches of complementary colors to complete our own cubist portraits. Next up, studying the works of M.C. Escher and his plays with illusions in Art.
5th Grade: Grant Wood Parodies & 'Moves like Haring'
Students that have completed their parodies will begin learning how to draw the human form in movement while studying the artist Keith Haring. This will prepare students for a drawing and painting project based on Keith Harings works.
