1st Grade: Van Gogh ' Starry Sunflowers'
The First grade has been learning about Vincent van Gogh and his impressionist style of bright bold color. We have finished drawing our combination of Starry Night and Sunflowers. We will be painting soon!!!
2nd Grade: Clay Pinch Pots and Faith Ringgold Story Quilts
With such a short amount of Art time before the end of the school year, students will be squeezing together two art projects. First we will be learning about clay, where it comes from, and creating pinch pots. Second, while the clay dries we will be learning about Faith Ringgold and her amazing story quilts. Students will learn the story of Tar Beach and create their own interpretation of Tar Beach.
3rd Grade: Egyptian Reliefs
This week we will finish collage and begin studying Egypt. Our Egyptian project will involve clay!!! Students will learn how to create a slab clay and make a relief by carving into their clay. The theme combines their classroom time of studying Chicago and Egypt...we are creating Egypt on Parade!!
4th Grade: Guatemalan Weaving and Printmaking
We will have been discussing the process of weaving. Student will create their own cardboard loom weavings. This week students continue using weaving techniques including tabby, basketweave, irregular basketweave, pull-ups and soumak! Students will also begin learning about the printmaking process and begin their own string collagraphs.
5th Grade: Cultural Masks
We will begin learning about mask making and various cultures that use masks. Students will be working with plaster gauze to sculpt their mask form. Once plaster is dry, students will be able to paint and decorate their masks based on themselves---who they are, what is important to them, and their cultural background.
