Weekly Activities in the Art Room:
Kindergarten- The Oops & Leaf Rubbings
Students will begin learning about one of the tough parts of being an artist--how to cope with a mistake. We will begin by reading the story, The Oops by Barney Saltzberg. As we read, we will discuss all kind of mistakes that have happen to them as unknowing artists and potential mistakes they will make as current artists. Students will then get a piece of paper with an 'Oops' already on it. Student will then have the challenge of the concept, "If you make a mistake, work with it…"
Once we finish our Oops projects, we will begin talking about texture and creating leaf rubbings. Along with this project we will explore lines and use our hands to create an autumn tree with line branches.

2nd Grade -The Dot and Prehistoric Art
Students will begin creating dots on a piece of 11x17 paper. They will make their dots as colorful or as large as they like. We will then read the story, The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds. Students will then take a second look at their dots. Like the story, students will learn to evolve and transform their dots into an object or image. We will discuss the challenges of thinking creatively to overcome challenges.
Once we complete our dot projects, we will begin exploring the beginnings of Art through Prehistoric Rock Art. Students will turn their paper into rocks and create prehistoric images and symbols on our rocks.
