Mystery Artist/Art Fun Board
This year I am taking on a new approach to the Mystery Artist Board. Instead of having student be art detectives each month to discover the secret artist, I will be rotating activities on the art board. For the month of September we are having a coloring contest to get ourselves warmed up. The is a specific coloring page in the Art Room students may take to participate. A top coloring picture will be selected at the end of the month for each grade level, (3rd-5th), and those students will select a prize from my prize box.
Weekly Activities in the Art Room:
Kindergarten- The Oops
Students will begin learning about one of the tough parts of being an artist--how to cope with a mistake. We will begin by reading the story, The Oops by Barney Saltzberg. As we read, we will discuss all kind of mistakes that have happen to them as unknowing artists and potential mistakes they will make as current artists. Students will then get a piece of paper with an 'Oops' already on it. Student will then have the challenge of the concept, "If you make a mistake, work with it…"

2nd Grade -The Dot
Students will begin creating dots on a piece of 11x17 paper. They will make their dots as colorful or as large as they like. We will then read the story, The Dot, by Peter H. Reynolds. Students will then take a second look at their dots. Like the story, students will learn to evolve and transform their dots into an object or image. We will discuss the challenges of thinking creatively to overcome challenges.
