Mystery Artist for March: Grant Wood

Mystery Artist for April:
1. Born on February 20, 1902 in San Francisco, this artist worked to build public awareness of photography as a fine art.
2. He was known for his dramatic images of mountain landscapes. He became on of the outstanding technicians in the history of photography.
3. In 1916, he took pictures with his very first camera on a family trip to Yosemite National Park. He would return to Yosemite every year for the rest of his life.

1st Grade: Modern Mona Lisa- We will be learning about the famous artist, Leonardo da Vinci. We will learn about his ways of proportion and creating the human face. Get ready--Mona will be time traveling to current day--wonder what new adventures she will experience!!!

2nd Grade: Kandinsky Colors and Gyotaku Fish-printing: Students are completing their own pure abstract painting using geometric shapes, organic shapes, primary colors and secondary colors. We will focus on the color wheel and learn to mix colors!! Once finished, students will begin a short and fun printmaking project focusing on Japanese fish-printing.

3rd Grade: Matisse Goldfish/F. L. Wright Mansions- We are finishing Henri Matisse Goldfish. Next up, we will be drawing and learning about Architecture! Students will be creating the facade of their dream mansion!

4th Grade: Guatemalan Weaving- Students are learning about the Guatemalan culture and weaving. Students are learning how to warp their own loom and begin weaving. Students will learn to create various weaving techniques!!!

5th Grade: Fantasy Portraits-We will begin sketching the our own self-portraits using the proportion scale of Leonardo da Vinci. We will learn about the various styles of portraits and begin adding a bit surrealism.

Mystery Artist for February: Paul Cezanne

Mystery Artist for March:

1. Born on a farm near the small town of Anamosa, Iowa in 1891, he loved helping out with farm chores. At the age of 10, his family moved to Cedar Rapids after his father died.

2. He painted simple scenes of the land and people he knew best. His artwork helped create an important American Art style.

3. One of his most recognized paintings became famous after winning 3rd place in an art contest at the Art Institute of Chicago.

4. This famous painting focused around a unique arched window based from architecture of the Middle Ages.

1st Grade: Action Jackson Paintings- We will read a story based on the Abstract Expressionist Artist, Jackson Pollack. We will learn about his unique style and creating with colors and expression. Get ready--it's a messy one!!!

2nd Grade: Kandinsky Colors Students are learning about the artist, Wassily Kandinsky. Students are creating their own pure abstract painting using geometric and organic shapes. We will focus on the color wheel and learn to mix secondary colors!!

3rd Grade: Matisse Goldfish- We are finishing our Japanese landscapes! Next up, Henri Matisse Goldfish. We will be drawing, painting and learning about warm and cool colors! The last step, students will collage in their favorite water creatures.

4th Grade: Aboriginal Art & Guatemalan Weaving- Students are learning about the Aboriginal culture and style of Art. Students are learning how to create X-ray and story Art based off images done by the Aboriginal culture of the past and present. Once students complete their Australian Art we will move on to Guatemalan Weaving!!!

5th Grade: Fantasy Portraits-We will begin sketching the our own self-portraits using the proportion scale of Leonardo da Vinci. We will learn about the various styles of protraits and begin adding a bit surrealism.
